Advantages of Spur Gears

Spur gears, also known as spur gears, have many advantages over other types of gears. Spur gears are easier to design and manufacture and are more efficient than helical gears. Spur gears offer higher efficiency because helical gears generate more heat because they have sliding contact between the teeth, which creates axial thrust. When an application requires simple, easy-to-assemble gears, spur gears may be the ideal gear for you. Spur gears are also known for their reliability and constant speed ratios. If you’re looking for quiet running gears, check out our helical gears.

Custom Spur Gears

We manufacture custom spur gears from your 2D drawings, 3D models or old, worn parts or samples. We will manufacture them from the material you specify, or we will take your sample gear and test it to determine material and hardness. Either way, you will receive custom spur gears manufactured to your custom needs.

Our spur gears are designed to operate on parallel shafts to transmit motion and power. We offer the largest selection in the industry today.

Spur gears are the most popular form and the most efficient type of gearing when transmitting power and uniform rotational motion from one parallel shaft to another. Within the limits of the center distance, spur gears provide positive constant speed drive, the speed of which can be increased or decreased by increasing or decreasing the number of teeth in the drive gear.

Spur gears can operate in a “gear train” of two or more gears, but they must all have the same diameter pitch and pressure angle. A gear with a pressure angle of 14-1/2° will not work with a gear with a pressure angle of 20°.

Our spur gears are available in eight materials: steel, hardened teeth, cast iron, bronze, stainless steel, aluminum, nylon, non-metallic phenolic resin. Gears made of custom materials to customer specifications are available in a timely manner.

As a spur gear manufacturer, we will do our best to serve you. If you need customized products, or the products you need are not found on our website or need the spur gears catalog, don’t worry; more of our products are still being uploaded. You can email us directly, and we will reply to you within 24 hours!

Types of Spur Gear

There are three important types of Spur Gear and those are:

  • External Spur Gear
  • Internal Spur Gear and
  • Spur Rack and Pinion.

External Spur Gear

These spur gears have external teeth on the outer surface of the cylinder. When the two gears meshes both will Rotate in the opposite direction. The driver is usually smaller in size & Driven is moved in the opposite direction to the Driver.

Internal Spur Gear

In internal spur gear, teeth are cut on the internal/inner surface. This gear will be like a ring into that pinion or smaller gear meshes inside it & the two shafts will Rotate in the same direction.

Spur Rack and Pinion

It is a special type where the pitch surface is a plane means it has an infinite diameter which is called a rack. It has also the same teeth means of the same module as that of pinion which is usually smaller.
